Summer Holidays Are Here...

Well, here we are , with those long summer days and the children home from school for the holidays...

just waiting on some warmer weather, which I believe will be here soon!
I want to thank everyone who was involved in a successful event on June 13th. I had a great night and appreciate everyone who came out to help and to stop by and say "hello". I have been super busy since then and have had no time to post until now, here is a sneek peak at an adorable little girl who loved to run away from me, she sure was fast but I had a few tricks up my sleeve that caught her off guard...ha!ha! thanks so much to a lovely family...

Come along and be inspired...

I can't believe I haven't blogged about this yet! I have been so busy learning about sending newsletters that I have neglected my blog posts...

anyway, for those of you who don't know already, I am having an open house event this coming Friday June 13th at the Squamish Arts Council building in the Park on Cleveland Ave Downtown Squamish. I have asked Colleen Cordts of Dragonfly Scrap booking to join me in hosting an event to share the samples of our work, in the hope to inspire the photographer, designer, artist in all of us. We want to show you just some of the many ways you can display your photography, whether it be your own personal work or that of a hired commissioned photographer.
There is so much you can do from simple frames,to storyboards and collages, story books, canvas gallery wraps to handcrafted scrapbooks and more.....
Come join us and see for yourself...
There will be some delectable treats from Xocolatyl chocolate shop, most notably their Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake....I can't say how long this will last...so get there early!
We are both looking forward to the evening and really hope to see you there.
For directions, click on the link above(Squamish Arts Council)
Meanwhile here are a couple from a recent session...
I love this family!

A Beautiful Tradition

A recent session taught me of the tradition in Japan to honour a daughter's 3rd and 7th birthday. Part of this tradition is to dress in Kimono and have a portrait taken of the child. I was fortunate enough to be hired by 2 sisters that each had a daughter, one being 3 years old the other 7!

Here is a snippet of our morning together...

Web Server Down temporarily

This is just a brief post to inform any curious souls out there that my website is currently not on line due to technical issues with my host(it's a long story, but hopefully it won't be too long before it will up again!)
So please stay tuned for updates....
I will be back later this evening with some info on an open house happening soon...until then..

And The Winner is....

To follow up from PROJECT CHILDHOOD, I would like to congratulate the grand prize winner karima white and all the place prize winners as well as the other inspiring photographers who entered and shared their stories, please click here to find the results. I knew the minute I saw the winning shot that it was the winning shot!!!
My win? was the win of getting to know such a sweet little family that allowed me to document a couple of hours of their day....thanks so much!

Also following up with the results of my call for nominations for a special mother (my offer for a Mother's day prize!) I do have a winner that will be featured on my blog here in the next few weeks, so check back in a little while for that.

What is a blog post without a pic???
Sunday morning fun...
My kids certainly give me plenty to smile about...

A Special Story: Emilio's Heart

I have had the pleasure of being involved in a very inspiring project recently(PROJECT CHILDHOOD), which has lead me along a path of getting to know a very special little boy. There is much I could say about Emilio and his sweet mother, but I am going to leave it to this post his mother wrote of their journey which I encourage you to read, then take another look at the special smile this little guy has.
Emilio turns 5 this week ! what a wonderful milestone for a little boy that has travelled so far already. His story has touched my heart as I am sure it will you, and to have met him in person I have found it truly inspiring to be in his presence. He has a way of helping you understand the meaning of living in the moment. His mother Pam is also a special woman, that shares that same passion for life as her son.

In Honour Of The Razzano family and their special mother Pam:

Mother's Day Celebration
Instead of the earlier mentioned suggestion of a contest I would like to offer an opportunity to my clients, friends and family to the following Mother's Day Celebration:
- Think of a mother that you know that you would love to give the gift of photography to, someone that wouldn't ordinarily be in a position to hire or organise a photographer.
- send me a brief description as to why you would recommend this mother, why she is special to you
- send me all contact details for yourself and your nominee
- nominees need to reside within a hundred km radius of Brackendale .B.C
- entries close 11.59 pm Thursday May 8th
- I will draw one lucky winner to be announced on Sunday May 11th MOTHER'S DAY 2008

The prize will be one fun filled portrait session, documenting a couple of hours in the day of a mother and her family! This will be then compiled into a soft cover magazine style book and a 11" x 14 " gallery wrap canvas(New Product yes!!!). This story will then be a feature in a new part of my website which I will be launching soon.....ooooh so many exciting things.
I will explain more as I go,
GOOD LUCK!
In the meantime here are some faves from Emilio's shoot. Be sure to pick up the Squamish Chief over the next week or two as Emilio's Story is being run to celebrate his 5th birthday.

Stay tuned for the MOTHER'S DAY contest......

next post.....

Earth Day 2008

Yes it is earth day!!! but don't you think everyday needs to be earth day??by that I mean, wouldn't it be great if each and every day we all did at least one thing to help the earth. For example picking up that plastic spoon you stepped over on the footpath and finding a way to recycle it?? or perhaps carpooling the kids to school or better still walk them to school or ride a bike, even if it is just one day a week, that is one less car on the road....oh this could be a long post, but I think we all get the picture(whoops sorry, bad pun.....). Anyway, yes I am ranting AND I am in no ways perfect at any of this, but I see my children growing up in a world of concern and uncertainty and I think it is important to have a voice about the things that are important.
So for earth day this year(and every day) I have some suggestions that can make the world a better place:
1. Smile and laugh lots(tickle those kids when they come into wake you up!!!)
2. If it's cold, dress really warm for breakfast instead of turning up the heat.
3. Eat as much certified organic produce and locally grown produce as you possibly can.
4. Put some music on that really makes you happy
5. Walk or ride with your children to school or to work (or catch a bus)
6. Grab a garbage bag for the walk or ride and stop to pick up any garbage that has been thrown down on the earth.
7. Ask someone very nicely to stop butting their cigarettes out on the ground, our earth is not an ashtray!
8. Say 'thank you"....
9. Give your children lots of love and hugs
10. Play with your children and ask them all about their day (even if they can't speak yet!!!)
11. Cook a wonderfully healthy meal and sit down together to enjoy it.
12. Thank each of your family members for a great day.
13. Turn off all the lights and power sources and have a peaceful sleep.

This list could be endless but the rest is up to you..
peace and Happy Earth Day
